Gravestones

A great source of information is the headstone. Apart from marking the exact position at which an tree member is interred, they are useful for providing the family historian with basic data regarding birth and death dates but also can offer names of all people buried within the grave, some of which may not have been known to the genealogist. They may provide a cause of death occasionally and other clues can be found from the inscriptions.

Below are images of headstones related to members of our family tree. Some have been found by visits to cemeteries – council, church and Commonwealth War Graves – whilst most have been accumulated from Ancestry.com and Find-a-Grave.
