The O'Hara - Bagshaw Family Tree

( Our ancestors did What  ?!? )

Headstones and Memorials

Another source of information about our ancestors and family is the gravestone. Whilst not always as accurate as we might like due to human error in the dates, either from the informant or just as likely the stonemason, they give valuable clues from the names of those interred and their dates of death to confirmation of information already accumulated from other soures.

Many have extra information other than names and dates, giving relationships and locations. All are extremely important to the genealogist.

There are many other memorials other than the headstone. Memorial cards have been and still are frequently printed to hand out to mourners in order to maintain the memory of the deceased person and newspaper cuttings carry In Memoriam columns as well as details of funerals. All are a great help in putting together the life details of those whom we are researching.
