Directories, Electoral and Valuation Rolls
Vital in locating addresses for our family members, Electoral Rolls and Directories such as Kellys, Whites and the Post Office are great sources of information. The Valuation Rolls are less informative but still useful.
Directories for Trade and Locations
The Trade directories include Kellys, Whites and the Post Office as originators and were published regularly throughout the 19th century. An ancestor could often be found in the listing of trades within a village or town thus giving profession and address.
Electoral Rolls
Published yearly, they are used usually to establish addresses for ancestors and whether other members of specific families were living together at one addess.
Valuation Rolls
Showing a name, residence (town) and usually the location of any properties held as well as valuation of the properties in terms of the tax to pay, there is less information to gather but alongside other sources, they can confirm details that were thought to be correct.
